Dinis Sousa leads the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Britten's Sinfonia da requiem , an intense three-part portrait of grief, anger and peace. Pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard then takes Belá Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 3 to the finish with his mixture of sharpness and lyricism, where the quiet adagio becomes a deep breath in the midst of the intense rhythm. Britta Byström celebrates 50 years with the world premiere of the orchestra's commissioned work A walk to Sibelius– a musical walk that moves forward and looks back. As a finale, Jean Sibelius's Symphony No. 3 awaits: tight, vital and transparent, with a drive that carries all the way to the last note.
