‘Commandingly elegant’ wrote the New York Times about this innovative alliance of two style pioneers. Chicago-based percussion quartet Third Coast Percussion is highly celebrated in the United States; fellow Chicagoan Jlin is one of the most progressive electronic musicians of this century. Together, they create a soundscape in which modern dance genres fuse with virtuoso percussion.
The versatile producer Jlin excelled at the Muziekgebouw during ADE 2017, the same year Third Coast Percussion became the first percussion ensemble ever to win a Grammy. Their inimitable sense of rhythm, unleashed on marimbas, vibraphones, pans and clapping hands, matches Jlin’s repertoire phenomenally. Equally inspired by West Chicago legend RP Boo as by Igor Stravinsky and Philip Glass, Miles Davis and Eartha Kitt, Jlin’s complex, percussion-driven work has a refined and entirely unique polyrhythmic sound. Her composition Perspective, written specifically for this collaboration, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2023.
