Newcastle International Chamber Music Series: Pavel Haas Quartet

The Pavel Haas Quartet are known for performances that feel alive and immediate. Their recordings have picked up major awards and each visit to this series has left a strong impression.

Schubert’s Quartettsatz moves quickly through shifting moods, from mystery to lyricism to bursts of drama.  Beethoven’s final quartet asks the question  ‘must it be?’ and answers it just as firmly ‘it must be’. Written when he was profoundly deaf, it’s both personal and universal. As for what must be? Well, that’s for you to decide. 

Dvořák’s String Quartet was written after three homesick years in America. It carries a sense of looking back as well as forward. Full of warmth, energy and reflection.
