Richard Strauss’ dramatic tone poem, Also sprach Zarathustra, became famous after Stanley Kubrick chose to use its opening to represent the sunrise from space in his classic film, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Holst’s characteristic portraits of two planets, Mars and Jupiter, lead seamlessly into music from Star Wars, written by the legendary film composer, John Williams.
