Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto leaves no one unmoved. It is filled with heartfelt themes, brims with rhythmic energy, and the virtuosic solo part is supported by a richly textured orchestral writing. The soloist is the internationally acclaimed young Swedish violinist Daniel Lozakovich.

The concert opens with Hugo Alfvén’s grand suite The Mountain King, originally ballet music in which we recognise the Shepherd Girl’s Dance. “It was such a joy to write this ballet, as I had the opportunity to depict nature in all its moods in the enchanted forest.”

The Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir has seen her music performed around the world since winning the Nordic Council Music Prize in 2012. In Metacosmos, she explores the balance between beauty and chaos through the speculative image of being drawn into a black hole – the unknown. Metacosmos was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic, which also gave its premiere in 2018 under the direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen.

To conclude, the acclaimed young Norwegian conductor Tabita Berglund leads the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in Alexander Scriabin’s feverishly intense Le poème de l’extase. Berglund was recently appointed Chief Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra from 2027 – the first female chief conductor in Norway.
