The irresistible sway of Johann Strauss’s An der schönen blauen Donau has made it arguably the most famous waltz of all time. Next, we glide to Busoni’s Tanzwalzer, before Korngold reminisces about his youth in Vienna through his Straussiana (which includes quotes from the waltz-master himself, Johann Strauss). Finally, Richard Strauss’s Rosenkavalier Suite is the culmination of Vienna’s golden age, full of splendour, opulence and charm.
