Veronika Eberle, the rising German star whose playing was recently described as “…undeniably of the first rank, unblemished and of crystalline purity…” (Bachtrack) performs Mendelssohn's enchanting and well-loved concerto in this concert, where it is joined by Jörg Widmann’s Con Brio and the work which inspired it, Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony.
Full of power and drama, the gravitas in the symphony’s second movement was perfect for the soundtrack of the 2010 film The King’s Speech and the finale was apparently summed up by Tchaikovsky as “A whole series of images, full of unrestrained joy, full of bliss and pleasure of life.”
