The Russian 'Grande Dame' of the piano world returns to the stage of the Blue Hall with a surprising programme centred on the note B. In music history, B major represents clarity, brilliance, and radiant joy; B minor embodies introspection, gravity, and depth. Two sides of the same note.

Major and minor - seemingly contradictory in musical theory - resonate in a single voice under Elisabeth Leonskaja’s hands. Yet the contrast remains palpable: Beethoven’s Fantasia, Opus 77 shines with clarity and strength; Shostakovich’s Sonata No. 2 exudes dark introspection; and Chopin’s Scherzo, Nocturne, and Sonata weave energy, lyricism, and restrained depth.

Thus, the note B becomes more than a sound: it reflects Leonskaja herself - radiant and contemplative, intense and understated. A recital by a masterful pianist that will undoubtedly linger long after the final ‘B’ has sounded.
