Festival: Händel Festival Halle

We might have tears in our eyes at the end of this Handel Festival gala concert: on the one hand because Veronica Cangemi has again succeeded in piercing the audience’s heart with her easy, smooth yet highly emotive voice, but also because at the same time we will be taking leave of one of the greatest interpreters of Handel’s opera music of the past few decades. Because Veronica Cangemi intends to end her singing career and devote herself to training young musicians. This concert will therefore bring back memories of her acclaimed appearances in the world’s great opera houses – Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, London and many more – and not least at the Handel Festival in Halle. She made her debut here in 1997 as Dalinda in Handel’s opera Ariodante in the Goethe Theatre in Bad Lauchstädt with Les Musiciens du Louvre conducted by Marc Minkowski, and has returned on several occasions. This is why she cherished the wish, if possible, to return as a singer to the city of Handel’s birth one last time. She will be supported by great musicians from La Cetra Barockorchester Basel conducted by none other than the recipient of the 2021 Handel Prize, Andrea Marcon. A magnificent event awaits us!
