Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the complete incidental music from Felix Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, plus the New York premiere of a concerto by Gabriela Ortiz, Carnegie Hall’s 2024–2025 Debs Composer’s Chair. A visionary and highly sought-after composer, Ortiz’s extensive history with the Los Angeles Philharmonic includes the 2022–2023 Carnegie Hall premiere of her violin concerto, which The New York Times described as “blazing ... a high bar,” noting that “Dudamel clearly connects with her compositions.” With her new concerto, Ortiz turns her focus to the cello and the extraordinary gifts of soloist Alisa Weilerstein.
