The laureate of the lute song, John Dowland is
chiefly remembered for the burnished melancholy
of ‘Flow, my tears’. In the last Cadogan Hall concert
of the 2013 Proms, tenor Ian Bostridge, lutenist
Elizabeth Kenny and the viol consort Fretwork mark
the 450th anniversary of Dowland’s birth in a
programme that explores his work at its saddest,
most seductive, and most light-hearted. An hour of
lachrimaes, love songs and dances amid the painters
(Sir John Souch), courtiers (Henry Noel) and
soldiers (Captain Digorie Piper) of Elizabethan
England.Tickets 10 - £12.
