Royal Philharmonic Orchestra | Stravinsky’s Firebird

There’s too much going on here to give all three composers justice, so lets focus on the Stravinsky. The opening is brooding and faintly ominous – think Gollum’s eyes peering out of the darkness. Next up we meet the Firebird – a total contrast – bright musical colours, as close as fire can be depicted in music. Later The Infernal Dance ratchets things up into 6th gear; intense, harrowing and violent. The ending is, no other way to describe it, edge of seat.
