Swedish soprano Camilla Tilling brings the first day of the Schubert Weekend to a conclusion with the composer’s settings of the poet Friedrich Rückert, with whom Schubert had a fascination in 1823. These are performed alongside Mahler’s five Rückert settings, written in the first two years of the 20th century and a core part of the song repertoire ever since. Camilla Tilling and pianist Sholto Kynoch also draw parallels between Mahler’s and Schubert’s folk-inspired songs. Camilla Tilling’s recitals are always special and memorable occasions, where the beauty of her voice is matched by the sincerity and directness of her musicianship.
Emerging Artists
At the start of this evening's concert, and at most of our evening concerts in the first week of the Festival, one of our eight exceptional Young Artist duos will give a 15-minute showcase performance. These emerging professionals are the stars of the future, and can also be heard during the Mastercourse later in the Festival.
