English National Ballet tours its outgoing artistic director's revision of Petipa's Raymonda, but it's Glazunov who proves the real winner. 

Petipa's classical choreography and Glazunov's ravishing score fuse with a reimagined narrative and bold choreographic additions to create a new Raymonda for the 21st century.

Asami Maki's Raymonda returns to stage after 12 years, and the result was glorious, with excellent interpretation by Yui Yonezawa, Yudai Fukuoka and Masahiro Nakaya.

Manuel Legris, whom Nureyev appointed étoile in Paris in 1986, presents an evening of Nureyev choreographies in Milan. 

The first mixed programme of the new season is led by a stellar cast.

Superstar husband-and-wife team, renowned violinist Vadim Repin and "tsarina of the dance" Svetlana Zakharova, go on a date and take us with them. The music fared much better than the ballet.

Mixed feelings form the Mariinsky Ballet's first performance of Raymonda in Washington. A shortfall in story-telling and emotional communication despite the polished dancing. 

Olga Smirnova's performance as Raymonda, at the Bolshoi, was nothing short of extraordinary. 

Rudolf Nureyev was born in 1938 and died in 1993, making 2013 the 75th anniversary of his birth and the 20th of his death. English National Ballet have cause to be deeply grateful to Nureyev: he gave them (in their previous incarnation as London Festival Ballet) their popular Romeo and Juliet, and lent his box-office appeal as a principal dancer to numerous other productions.
