Revival

This riveting romp follows the last twenty-four hours in the life of the legendary Lothario as he lusts his way towards one last hot date with the fires of hell. Mozart’s most wickedly seductive opera returns in this ‘brutal but brilliant’ (The Sunday Telegraph) production by multi-award-winning director Rufus Norris, whose dazzling ENO staging of Damon Albarn’s Dr Dee is a major highlight of the London 2012 Festival.

Edward Gardner, ENO’s Olivier Award-winning Music Director, conducts a cast featuring many of the outstanding singers from its initial 2010 run. This first revival boasts star bass-baritone Iain Paterson (recently acclaimed as both Wagner’s Amfortas and Mozart’s Figaro) as the hell-bent womaniser, with Katherine Broderick and Ben Johnson (both former Kathleen Ferrier Award-winners) as the defiled Donna Anna and her uptight fiancé Don Ottavio. Rebecca Evans and Sarah Redgwick share the role of the abandoned Donna Elvira, Darren Jeffery’s Leporello, the compulsive cataloguer of Giovanni’s sexual conquests, along with Sarah Tynan as Zerlina and Matthew Best as heaven’s ghostly avenger, the Commendatore.
