For its major production this term, Royal Academy Opera presents Mozart’s last opera, Die Zauberflöte. The most complex, most audacious and perhaps most impenetrable of all his operas, it is nonetheless also his most entertaining. Brilliantly — and effortlessly — combining three genres (pantomime, rescue opera, Masonic allegory), this was the work which in Mozart’s final months was a runaway success in Vienna, too late to restore his rapidly-declining health, but certainly in time to boost his popularity and therefore his confidence, for the last time. Die Zauberflöte will be sung and spoken in its original German. Booking for this event opens on Friday 6th January.
