A series of cancellations resulted in an unusual triple bill: a rare Spanish opera, an impromptu concert by Plácido Domingo and Woody Allen's brilliant Gianni Schicchi.

With this concert performance of The Barber of Seville, the Nederlandse Reisopera and its team of soloists, headed by an irresistible Mark Milhofer as Almaviva, treated the audience of the Concertgebouw to a feast of exuberant comedy and fine singing.

Rossini's The Barber of Seville has been his most enduringly well-loved opera. It's in the top ten of operas performed worldwide today, and it has stayed at the top of the most-played lists even when many of his other works were little played.
