Stefan Herheim schmiedet seinen Ring des Nibelungen an der Deutsche Oper Berlin mit einem Finale, das es in sich hat.

There's little to like in Andrea Moses' production, but a fine cast and glorious playing and conducting make for an enthralling performance of Wagner's grand comedy.  

Stephen Gould is less than convincing in the lead role of Tannhäuser, but excellent ensemble work under Ádám Fischer's inspired direction offers compensations.
