Freiburger BarockConsort

The renowned choreographer Sasha Waltz has in recent years enjoyed widespread success with her crossovers between opera and ballet. She comes to Dutch National Opera with her own company for the first time to stage Claudio Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo. The alternation between sung and instrumental sections make this a work naturally suited to a choreographic approach.

Pablo Heras-Casado makes his debut at National Opera & Ballet, leading the celebrated Freiburger Barockconsort. The cast, while introducing many new singers, includes two veteran Dutch National Opera soloists: Charlotte Hellekant (Anna in Les Troyens, Cornelia in Giulio Cesare) sings La Messagiera/La Speranza and Georg Nigl (title role in Dionysos and Mr. Astley in The Gambler) is Orfeo.

Coproduction with Sasha Waltz & Guests, Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, Bergen International Festival, Opéra de Lille, with support of the Federal Cultural Foundation and Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin.
