Despite the longueurs of the piece, this performance of Solomon was pretty much perfect. 

While the oratorio “Jephtha” is rarely performed, Joachim Krause recently conducted the Capriccio Barockorchester and some 120 singers of the Gemischte Chor Zürich to delight a Zurich audience.

In spite of superb performances from the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra and the two lead soloists, Steffani’s Niobe at the Concertgebouw offers too few inspired moments to make it truly memorable.
