Work: Cello sonata no. 2 in D major, BWV1028

A generous programme by Alban Gerhardt and Víkingur Ólafsson saw a tale of two halves, with the classical poise of the first half and the more extrovert showpieces of the second. 

At the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Lucile Boulanger and Arnaud de Pasquale give performance of warmth, intimacy and subtlety for Bachdag Amsterdam.

An entire century. Actually, it’s been 101 years and some months if we want to be specific. That’s how long it took for US audiences to hear the magisterial Piano Quintet in B minor, Op. 118 by German composer Philipp Scharwenka. Through no fault of the music, I should add.
