The waltz, immortalised by the Strauss family in Vienna, enjoyed tremendous success in Paris in the early twentieth century, to the point of becoming one of the capital’s signature styles. What made it so special was the fact that it was sung. Always appealing, capable sometimes of moving audiences to tears, it assimilated all sorts of modern influences, including cross-step (“valse Boston”), Gypsy waltz, bolero, foxtrot... Nor was virtuosity excluded, whether in the form of operatic vocalises or Tyrolean yodelling.
Leaving aside for a while their exploration of the French mélodie, Cyrille Dubois and Tristan Raës here revive with spirit and humour a repertoire that is sure to delight audiences of all ages.
Concert followed by a cocktail.
