Erste journalistische Arbeiten, Gedichte und Reportagen verfasste Dieter Bub mit 13, mit 19 dann Konzertkritiken. Er arbeitete als Reporter & Redakteur bei Tageszeitungen, anschließend war er Mitarbeiter beim NDR in Hannover, Hamburg und Westberlin mit Schwerpunkt DDR. Seit den siebziger Jahren verfasst er Theater-, Konzert- & Opernkritiken in Hamburg und Berlin für den NDR und ORF. Er hat TV-Dokumentationen weltweit über die Philharmonie der Nationen gestaltet, war 1979-1983 Stern-Korrepondent in Ostberlin und wandte sich ab 1983 wieder intensiver Berichterstattung zu Oper, Theater und Konzert in Berlin zu.
Seit 2014 gestaltet Dieter Bub Beiträge für Deutschlandradio Kultur, führt ein eigenes Internet-Portal und ist Autor von Dokumentationen und Romanen.
