BBC Philharmonic: Verdi, Bruch & Beethoven

Two chords slam out, and symphonies will never be the same again. Beethoven's "Eroica" symphony changed the course of musical history. Here in Manchester we did our bit too, when in 2006, the BBC Philharmonic's series of free Beethoven symphony downloads brought recorded music into the 21st century, making headlines around the world.

Conductor Laureate Gianandrea Noseda recaptures the energy of that moment tonight, and joins the masterly French violinist Renaud Capucon in the world's favourite violin concerto. Everyone knows Bruch's First Concerto, but one thing's for sure: you won't have heard it played quite like this! And in Verdi's bicentenary year, his overture to Nabucco - best known for the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves - gets the action off to an electrifying start.
