Semyon Bychkov, who holds the Günther Wand Conducting Chair, combines Brahms's titanic first symphony with a contemporary homage and Haydn's ebullient Cello Concerto.

Paul Watkins joins the BBC Symphony Orchestra in Haydn's sparkling masterpiece in C major, a composer much admired by Brahms. Detlev Glanert's lifelong fascination with his Romantic forebears has inspired several works of chameleon-like subtlety and resonance, including this Brahms Fantasie, which opens tonight's programme.
