Sakari Oramo continues his exploration of great British orchestral music with Elgar’s ground-breaking first symphony and Bax's luminous tone poem The Garden of Fand.
While Bax's work evokes the Irish legend of the siren Fand in her watery world, Elgar wrote of his masterful symphony: 'There is no programme beyond a wide experience of human life with a great charity and a massive hope in the future.' We welcome back Australian composer and violist Brett Dean to play his concerto for his ‘curiously beautiful, somewhat enigmatic instrument’.
