The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra enjoys a long-standing relationship with Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Charles Dutoit, a musician of exceptional integrity, and this concert is a wonderful opportunity to witness their unique collaboration. The programme begins with the beautiful symphonic poem Fountains of Rome by Respighi, who gives expression to the sentiments and visions suggested to him by four of Rome’s iconic fountains. Ending the concert, we have one of Stravinsky’s most glittering and colourful scores: the ballet Petrushka in its original 1911 version. These pieces frame the beautiful Cello Concerto by Dvořák, performed by French cellist Gautier Capuçon, described by the LA Times as a 'brilliant soloist'.
