Only a mere 50 years separate Brahms’s final symphony and Berg’s 1935 Violin Concerto. Poised between pensive mystery and surging beauty, Berg’s famous concerto “To the Memory of an Angel” has its unmistakable modernity plucked aside from time to time to reveal glimpses of heaven. Acclaimed violinist Leila Josefowicz plays this haunting work under the baton of popular South Korean conductor Han-Na Chang, who will also lead the SSO in Brahms’s monumental Symphony No. 4.
