Schumann and Brahms

Dmytro Choni has quickly become a rising star since his success in the prestigious Van Cliburn Piano Competition. His lyrical touch and perfect mastery have won him the hearts of audiences across the world. Choni weaves together the turbulent emotions of Schumann’s Second Piano Sonata with Brahms’ beloved last four Klavierstücke.

Choni also performs Lowell Liebermann’s spectacular Gargoyles from 1989. Gargoyles is an accessible and contemporary work full of extremes, ranging from timeless dreaminess to dizzying virtuosity. Debussy’s preludes add the final touch to this celebration of the piano. Fortunately, Choni will be back at the Muziekgebouw soon after this concert: on 13 March, he will share the stage with renowned violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann.
