A hoary old production of an operatic warhorse is brought to quite energetic life by a sparkling cast and excellent musical and dramatic performance.

Directing Entführung at the grand old age of 85, John Copley gives us plenty of fun in the Pasha's palace.

Despite a great cast, the Metropolitan Opera's revival of Semiramide bores with tacky costumes and no direction.

WNO's excellent revival of John Copley's 2011 staging of Die Fledermaus is a delight.

With a combined age of 161 years, John Copley and Steuart Bedford certainly bring ample experience to Grange Festival's new production of Britten's Albert Herring.

An energetic performance of Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus, showcased both the work and some very fine young singers.

Ermonela Jaho gives an incomparable vocal acting performance; John Copley's production, 40 years old this year, never fails to enthrall. It's being retired after next season: catch it while you can, and remember to pack the handkerchiefs.

When the Met estimated the timing for Norma, Bellini’s familiar bel canto opera included in their fall repertory this year, they did not factor in the ongoing applause for soprano Sondra Radvanovsky.

After years of opera going, is it really still possible for me to be moved to tears by a tenor’s wail at the sight of a consumptive heroine dying tunefully in her bed at the end of the last act? I didn’t think so, but on the basis of last night’s Covent Garden performance of La Bohème, the answer would appear to be yes.

When you go to a student opera production, even at an institution as prestigious as the Royal Academy of Music, you don't expect to see one of the opera world's conducting legends in the pit. But that's precisely what we had at last night's performance of Berlioz's Béatrice et Bénédict, in the shape of Sir Colin Davis (CH, CBE), a man with several thousand opera performances on the clock.
