Kazuki Yamada and the CBSO and Chorus weave Baroque and Romantic allusions into Haydn’s Classical masterpiece, in a superb, at times operatic, performance at Symphony Hall.

Take a fine orchestra and an equally fine chorus, together with three contrasting soloists, and for content the greatest story ever: all the ingredients to bring alive Haydn's The Creation.

A sense of marvel and joy permeates this New Year's Day performance of Haydn's oratorio at Müpa, Budapest.

When Haydn’s Die Schöpfung (“The Creation”) had its public première in 1799, the forces were nothing less than gigantic; the orchestra numbered 120 people and the choir 60, considerable forces even today. The forces in use on Thursday’s performance were perhaps not of the same size, an orchestra of about 70, and a choir of 26.
