It’s curious to program an opening night with second-fiddle work; at least I thought so until this Strauss.

Prokofiev’s much-loved Peter and the Wolf and Poulenc’s Babar, the Little Elephant made for a jolly children’s programme at the Tonhalle, even despite a major mishap.

In yesterday’s matinee concert at the Konzerthaus, the Wiener KammerOrchester, Stefan Vladar and Thomas Quasthoff presented music by Mozart, Prokofiev and Poulenc in a family-friendly format. 

Widely acclaimed professional community orchestra New Philharmonic opened its 34th Season with an outstanding, family-friendly concert featuring both overture classics and everyone's favorite musical fairy tale, Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf.
