Temps fort de la saison du Ballet de l'Opéra National de Bordeaux, la soirée « Quatre tendances » associe cette année deux créations de Wiest et Casquilho et deux œuvres cultes de McGregor et León & Lighfoot.

Everything Pite choreographs turns to gold and when Young is also involved it’s an especially rich vein.

Shut Eye (Lightfoot & León) is like an alternating current. Woke Up Blind (Goecke) is entertaining and vulnerable. Pite's work hits the rythmic nail on the head. You want to freeze-frame Pite's dancers, snap a picture and hang it on the wall.

As part of the nationwide “Steps” dance festival, NDT2 gave a degree of precision, theatrics, musicality, and humour that truly set the group apart.

Zurich recently welcomed the Swiss premieres of two extraordinary ballets, one by choreographers Sol León and Paul Lightfoot, the other by Crystal Pite.

NDT's main company is back in Berlin, at the House of the Berliner Festspiele, with works by four aces of contemporary choreography. More classically abstract works are successfully paired with ones for the digital-literate.

It's all there; the virtuoso dancing, brilliant live Philip Glass music, mysteriously connected couples whirled into a subtle feeling of expansion. If your brain lacks a much needed moral and creative boost this is your December pick-me-up.
