L’Opéra de Baugé est né d’un pari un peu fou : celui de créer, en Maine-et-Loire, un festival dans la lignée de celui de Glyndebourne, dans le Sussex. Champêtre, propice à d’élégants pique-niques à l’entracte, joyeux et tous publics, le festival n’en est pas moins exigeant et porté par une vraie passion pour le genre.

Excellent vocal acting and total commitment to the text make for a riveting piece of operatic storytelling, driven by James Schouten's powerful Loge.

A disappointingly po-faced and directorally hidebound production almost takes the shine off a superb Daphne starring Justine Viani, with an exciting Peneios from Welsh bass James Gower. 

Tête-à-Tête's installation of four works is something of a curate's egg, but worth it for James Schouten's exhilarating Rock Tosca and Workshopera's visionary Boys of Paradise.
