In Mannheim wurde Franz Schrekers selten gespielte Oper temporeich, bunt und mit Witz unterhaltsam auf die Bühne gebracht. Störend war nur die penetrante Überschreibung mit dem Problem des belgischen Kolonialismus, was für die Interpretation des Stücks wenig hergibt.
