It was an altogether riotous and highly enjoyable performance of a wacky work, one long overdue to be heard in this country.

HK Gruber's wit shines through this concert centred on Brecht and Weill's bitingly sarcastic songs from The Threepenny Opera; Håkan Hardenberger thrills with magical playing of trumpet and flugelhorn.

Every operatic ingredient was thrown into the pot for H.K. Gruber's Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald (Tales from the Vienna Woods), but do too many cooks spoil this operatic broth?
