At 78, Domingo rages against the ravages of time, and – certainly in this production – shows the next generation a thing or two about stagecraft.

Barrie Kosky’s new Macbeth is devoid of riff-raff, shrill costumes and anything trivial. Instead, it’s a feast for the imagination, a case for modern opera at its very best. 

The Lyric Opera put together the best-sounding première of the year so far, in which singers, chorus and the orchestra all began with astonishing confidence and only improved from there.

Bravo to the Haus am Ring for a bloody good night of music, drama and beauty – an excellent first première of the season.

American tenor Brian Jagde is the standout in this Tosca, with just those notes of honey and throatiness that seem to wrap up an orchestra’s sound and deliver the whole package to your front door, no signature needed.
