Love, torture, murder, blackmail, and, in the end, a leap from prison to her death: Puccini’s Tosca, which premiered in January 1900, is a true masterpiece of sex and crime that places the protagonists’ emotions under the magnifying glass of musical drama. A shocking opera that races almost relentlessly through the dramatic plot, pausing for only two lyrical interludes: reflections on a life devoted to art and a life devoted to love – neither of which could be lived, because both the opera diva Floria Tosca and the painter Mario Cavaradossi fell victim to ruthless politicians in turbulent times.
In Italian with German and English surtitles
There will be a german introduction 45 minutes before the performance at foyer I. floor.
