Dvořák’s Serenade for Winds is the composer at his most tender. Warm-hearted music that feels like it’s been written for friends. Instruments weave in and out of each other, chatting and chuckling, pausing for breath, then carrying on. A proper comfort listen. Mozart pulls out all the stops with his Serenade No. 10 ‘Gran Partita’ – thirteen players, seven movements, and one great big expression of joy. You’ll get bursts of brass, delicate woodwind dances, and that famous slow movement that still stops people in their tracks.
