The RLPO minus violins give a joyous concert in the new Tung Auditorium in Liverpool, featuring Co-principal Viola Nicholas Bootiman in Hindemith's Kammermusik no. 5, plus serenades by Dvořák and Brahms. 

Nézet-Séguin and the Orchestre Métropolitain perform Dvořák and Brahms with a lightness of touch and attention to detail.

One of those performances when the sheer physical beauty of the instruments and the sounds they were making became the organic nature of the music itself.

Royal Northern Sinfonia play chamber music by Beethoven, Schoenberg, Martinů and Dvořák in a programme travelling from passionate despair to playful high spirits.

With so much of the chamber repertoire focused on strings and piano, it was a refreshing choice by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center to open their season with some of the great works for winds.

In an unusual piece of programming by today’s standards, this evening’s symphony, Vaughan Williams’ fifth, was played before the interval, with the lighter works, Dvořák’s Wind Serenade and Elgar’s Cockaigne, later in the evening.
