The French Romantics are often eclipsed by their bigger name Germanic cousins but Méhul opened the door to the romantic period in a distinctly French way. Hear his experimentations with drama and high emotions through extracts from his operas, including the game changing orchestration of Uthal and the passionate Ariodant, along with music by Gluck, Beethoven, Mozart and Salieri.
