LA Opera’s new season opens with a new production of Bizet’s Carmen, conducted by new Music Director Domingo Hindoyan, but the spectacular effects detract from the drama.

Pelly’s low-level intervention leaves the audience marooned at the end of his new production of Strauss and Hofmannsthal’s operatic divertissement.

Even locked behind a music stand, like a caged panther in a sleek black gown, Grigorian’s Salome bristles with dramatic energy in Barbican concert performance of Strauss’ “scherzo with a fatal conclusion”.

Manfred Schweigkofler's production places the drama in a surreal, timeless atmosphere at the Teatro San Carlo.

Asmik Grigorian is captivating in an unobtrusive production of Puccini's three one-act operas. Under Franz Welser-Möst, the Vienna Philharmonic is on top form.

In Tcherniakovs neuer Inszenierung an der Staatsoper Hamburg ist Asmik Grigorian nach fünf Jahren endlich wieder als Salome zu erleben.
