Thomas Adès serves up an astronomical programme, pairing his Piano Concerto and Paradiso with Holst’s crowd favourite, The Planets.

Kirill Gerstein, together with Sir Antonio Pappano and the LSO, delivers a coruscating performance of what is rapidly becoming a 21st-century classic, framed by Bartók and Beethoven.

Typically interesting programming from Jurowski gave us the Proms premiere of Adès’ Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, combined with saucy Weill and forcefully modern Rachmaninov. 

A nine-day celebration that could be also seen as a mini relaunch for the controversial building 

Under Alan Gilbert’s baton, Kirill Gerstein presented the very recent piano concerto of Thomas Adès on an otherwise conservative program of Bach and Brahms.

The concerto is not only a dance with tradition, it’s a dance between Adès and his frequent collaborator and friend, Kirill Gerstein.
