Soprano Claron McFadden's pellucid voice tremendously contributed to the structural and sonic richness of Widmann's Versuch über die Fuge.

This was a true tour de force and a fitting climax to a rather miraculous examination of counterpoint through musical history.

It takes artistic invention and considerable courage to design a concert programme solely around tragic topics; yet the connecting link between the various items on the last subscription concert by the Australian Chamber Orchestra was – directly or indirectly – death and great composers’ reaction to it. The key of C minor invariably carries sombre overtones in the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The fugue made an interesting subject for the Brodsky Quartet’s concert at St Georges. The programme delved into the fugue’s cross over between eras, from Baroque, all the way to early expressionism.

The Scottish Ensemble on lively form is joined by exciting Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero to explore the links and influences of Bach and Mozart on modern South American composers.  

Mozart and the Brits offered the chance to hear Britten and rarely performed Malcolm Arnold, courtesy of the Sydney Symphony. 

The Zurich Chamber Orchestra (ZKO) showed its fine colours this week with a triple bill of works for a string configuration. The programme included a stellar solo performance by the great Norwegian cellist, Truls Mørk.

Gluck’s ballet Don Juan is a rarity but sadly, the tame performance by the Academy of Ancient Music, part of its ‘Grand Tour’ series, failed to seduce at Milton Court. 

There are few concert-going pleasures as rewarding as hearing a great conductor performing music he is clearly passionate about and inspiring those around him to ever greater heights of involvement with the music. This is what the audience at the Auckland Town Hall was treated to with Paul McCreesh and his interpretation of Elgar's Symphony no. 2 in E flat major with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. 

Capping off their two-weekend Mozart Festival, the Dallas Symphony played three minor-key masterworks this weekend, plus one major-key selection. Music in minor keys is the exception to the Mozartian rule – only two each of the 27 piano concerti and 41 symphonies are in minor.

There are the knowns. The things, as Rumsfeld would have it, that we know that we know. Like the way the Aurora orchestra can bring sheer youthful exuberance to a fast piece like the G Major presto finale to the symphony No.27 which ended the first half of last night's all-Mozart concert at Kings Place. Aurora don't just survive at these breakneck tempi, they absolutely thrive on them.

Mit Werken Richters, Tůmas und Mozarts hinterließen Chor, Orchester und Solisten eine temperamentvolle, stolze und ausgewogene Visitenkarte, die von extremen Kontrasten geprägt war und mich in frühere Zeiten zurückversetzen sollte.

Bajo el título "Música por la paz", la Universidad Autónoma reunió a la Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra y al pianista Ronald Brautigan en un excelente concierto con obras de Mozart, y que servía de homenaje a Francisco Tomás y Valiente.

Bei Mozart und Auszügen aus Bachs Kunst der Fuge präsentiert das Quartett harmonische, eigenständige Interpretationen, bei Beethoven ist das Ensemble erwartungsgemäß deutlich mehr gefordert.

Con un interesantísimo programa conformado únicamente por obras de Mozart, La Orquesta Filarmónica Nacional de Hungría se presentó en Madrid con János Kovács al frente. El tributo mozartiano convocó al Cor Madrigal para la interpretación del monumental e incoparable Réquiem, con el que se cerró una magnífica celebración del genial compositor.
