The Prague Philharmonia under Jiří Habart invites the audience of the Kölner Philharmonie into the world of Viennese Classicism. The evening opens with the sparkling Overture to La clemenza di Tito by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, composed for the coronation festivities in Prague in 1791.
Next comes Joseph Haydn’s enchanting Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major, a work brimming with melodic invention and virtuosic brilliance, with German cellist Benedict Kloeckner as soloist.
The second half brings Mozart’s Symphony No. 38 in D major “Prague” — a work the composer dedicated to the city that embraced him like no other. Full of dramatic tension and playful wit, it stands among the finest achievements of Mozart’s orchestral legacy.
