L'Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier reprend la mise en scène de David Hermann créée en 2017. Une production marquée par la belle direction de Michael Schønwandt.

Un Don Giovanni de haute volée porté par un Simon Keenlyside impérial, dans une mise en scène sombre mais d’une efficacité redoutable.

Il sera bien malaisé pour le spectateur de trouver dans ce morne tableau la ferveur conjuguée d’Eros et de Thanatos, ou encore, comme souhaité, le désespoir des années SIDA. Ni gaie, ni triste : la chair, ici, indiffère. 

Cette alchimie fait ressortir l’étonnante maturité du jeune Mozart (alors âgé de quatorze ans), préfigurant déjà des chefs-d’œuvre tels qu’Idomeneo.

Inspiré du Mithridate de Racine (1673) cet opéra éponyme composé en 1770 par un Mozart tout juste âgé de 14 ans est musicalement brillamment interprété. Dommage que la mise en scène soit quasi inexistante…
