A three hour Bach "meditation", with Bach mixed with Kurtág, various other modern pieces and free jazz improvisation all sounded a bit radical. But the results were extraordinary.

This a was breathtaking but not breathless concert by Alina Ibragimova, a brilliantly accomplished individual interpretation of three of Bach's solo partitas and sonatas for violin.

This second concert of the Clifton International Festival of Music was a sparkling gem amongst concrete presenting no less than three world premières as part of the Orgelbüchlein Project.

There was an oriental rug on the stage, centered and towards the front, with one stool in the far left corner and a single microphone, dead center. Clearly the makings of a solo show, Chris Thile made a joke about the “International Committee of Solo Performers” – you must play at least one, but no more than three, songs about the civil war.

For many reasons, the ACO’s most recent show The Reef was an artistic experience like no other in all my years of concert-going. It is difficult even categorising the event: an orchestral concert with accompanying video footage? A film with live soundtrack? Neither does full justice to the nature of the project.

A stunning Amandine Beyer courageously took the stage this weekend during a string of concerts surrounding the theme of J.S. Bach during Utrecht’s Bach Dag (Bach Day). Comprising seven concerts on Saturday alone in churches inside the beautiful city of Utrecht, this two-day event was produced by the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht (Utrecht Early Music Festival).

There is a rare beauty to be found in the “normality” of human nature, in which the sense of just “being” transcends any degree of artificial decoration or finery.
