A double-header celebrates Schubert featuring Allan Clayton and Paul Lewis in Winterreise and the Austrian folk/rock band The Erllkings.

For the first time ever, the Philadelphia Orchestra perform music by Julius Eastman (1940-1990), a graduate of the nearby Curtis Institute.

Hofesh Shechter's Red Carpet for Paris Opera Ballet offered brief harrowing elements in an otherwise tiresome evening, though the music, also by Shechter, was tremendous.

I must admit that Bach through Brass, as this concert was entitled, filled me with a certain amount of trepidation. Bach, on instruments for which the music in the programme was not designed, on instruments which were not even around in Bach’s time (at least not in their modern-day form), did not sound immediately appealing; nevertheless, something drew me in, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Possessor of an impeccable touch, pianist Kathleen Supové is one of those compelling performers who truly communicates her unique personality through her playing, as she did at Thursday night’s performance at Roulette in Brooklyn.
