Expectations ran high when Yannick Nezet-Seguin took the reins of the Metropolitan Opera in 2018. He exceeded them all. ‘I had expected it to be good,’ wrote the New York Times journalist in a rave review, ‘but not this good.’ So opera-loving New Yorkers have plenty to enjoy, but there is good news for the Netherlands too: in February 2020 Yannick is bringing Die Frau ohne Schatten to Rotterdam. Richard Strauss’s sumptuous fairy tale opera gets a complete concertante performance with a star-studded international cast and a major role for the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Just once in the Netherlands, only in Rotterdam.
