Michele Mariotti triumphs in Rossini’s masterpiece with a good cast led by Salome Jicia and a new production, only partially successful.

Mercadante's score proves to be something of a missing link between bel canto and early Verdi. 

This production at the San Carlo was an excellent, emotional Lucia di Lammermoor, welcomed with empathy by the audience, like an old companion.
